Arrivals by train

Venice Santa Lucia station is the only rail access to the city. It should not be confused with Venice Mestre, a station on the mainland. Check carefully the timetable. On exiting the station, the traveller is immediately confronted by the Grand Canal, where vaporetto (water buses) and water taxis are available. Not as dramatic as arriving from the skies, but it still gets you there.

Public transport
From Santa Lucia station, take the frequent vaporetto (nos. 1 and 82) to any destination within Venice. For the latest info on train routes and prices, check out the official Italian Railways web site. For the latest vaporetto routes and schedule, check out the official ACTV web site. Santa Lucia is also the station where, between March and November, the world's most celebrated train, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, departs for other European destinations.
