Nightlife attractions

Details of films, concerts and exhibitions can be found in the daily local newspapers such as Il Gazzettino and La Nuova Venezia; also useful is "Un ospite a Venezia - A guest in Venice", a free Italian/English magazine available at most hotels and tourist attractions; it is also available online
A popular venue for those who feel lucky should be the Casinó of Venice, located at the Grand Canal's Palazzo Vendramin-Calergi, open daily between October and March from 15.00 to 03:00 in the morning. Between April and September the Casino moves to the Lido (same hours) at the Palazzo del Casinò. Dress smartly and take your passport with you to ensure entrance and... good luck!!

The Fenice theatre burned down on the night of 29th January 1996 and was reopened on 14th December 2003 after extensive rebuilding; during its closer all lyrical and ballet performances were held at the Palafenice, Tronchetto island. The Fenice theatre has its own web site with numerous information and a calendar of events.

Venice only two discos are El Souk, Accademia 1056/a - tel 041/520 0371 (open 22.00-04.00 except Monday) and Casanova, Lista di Spagna, Cannaregio 158/a - tel 041/275 0199 ((disco pub/Internet Café, open 09.00-02.00 and until 4am on disco nights); at Lido try Acropolis, Lungomare Marconi, 22 - tel 041/526 0466 (open 10.00-04.00 except Monday). For a larger selection of discos it is advisable to drive to the mainland (Mestre being the closest town). There are several 'fast food' and four McDonalds; their closing times range between 20.00 and 22.00

We would not hesitate to recommend Martini Scala, Campo San Fantin, San Marco 1983 - tel 041/522 4121 (open 21.00-03.30 except Tuesday), a popular piano-bar with live music and dancing. It is not cheap but the atmosphere is great, the service excellent and a good way to meet the locals. The establishment is also a restaurant (with the terrace facing the newly rebuilt Teatro Fenice), one of the best in Venice with prices to match.

Churches normally host concerts (Frari and Santo Stefano among the best known) or you can try Palazzo Labia, where RAI, the Italian broadcasting station, records classical concerts; entrance is free. Traditional Venetian classic music can be found on the Rondò Veneziano web site (German only). Finally, for the football supporter, check out the Venezia Football Club web site.
